In Pictures: Wildfires In The Santa Barbara Area

A wind-whipped wildfires raged on Thursday evening in the Santa Barbara region of California scorching more than 2,700 acres, forcing more than 12,000 Santa Barbara County residents to evacuate, and damaged or destroyed at least 75 homes.

Governor Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in the picturesque town as fierce winds of up to 50mph pushed the blaze into a residential areas.

Santa Barbara – an area famous for its Spanish colonial architecture, beaches and vineyards – is home to 90,000 residents, including a number of celebrities.
