Chemical Ali Executed For Kurdish Gas Attack

Former Iraqi official Chemical Ali has been executed after receiving four life sentences, a government spokesman announced.
Ali Hassan al-Majid, an enforcer in his cousin Saddam Hussein’s regime, was convicted of killing Shia Muslims in 1991 and 1999.
He was also sentenced to death for a gas attack – the single biggest atrocity of Saddam’s rule – on the Kurdish town of Halabja in 1988 in which 5,600 died – most of them women and children.
Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said: ‘The death sentence against Ali Hassan al-Majeed has been carried out.’
