Photo Special: Mexican Cantina Women
Ladies Bar is the product of more than 10 months of work in some of the roughest cantinas in La Santisima Muerte, Guadalajara – Mexico’s second-largest city.
The pictures in this collection were taken by John Sevigny in small bars frequented by criminals, drug addicts, and aggressive drunks. The photos focus on cantina women, those who work as prostitutes and paid drinking companions.

Fat mexican women with tattoos?
cant be that hard, none of them is actually working in the pictures.
Ummm….. Yeah, it really shows all that real life nitty gritty with the condoms and the horny ugly men with bad teeth and bad breath… money changing hands… Really captures the bruised arms and breasts from grabbing hands… the std tests… the change rooms with overflowing ashtrays. This is the real deal here folks. Photojournalism at its finest.
That’s really heavy. There’s so much emptiness and desperation in those faces. The woman in number 30 has a scar on her wrist, where I guess maybe she tried to kill herself.
Life can be hard.
Number 25 wasn’t bad at all. Feels weird calling her by a number.
Like I’m going to mail order her off a catalogue.
Reminds me of the time I went to Matamoros. There was this beautiful girl, and she wanted $50. She had a c-section scar, but she was still hot. It was one of the best nights of my life. The fact that a woman was screaming in Spanish was enough for me.
Looks just like Southern California to me.
It really shows what kind of slease bag joint you guys hang out in. I don’t know about you. But i am from mexico and this shit you see in just about any neighborhood in any part of the world, not just Mexico.
Including Brasil and Europe.
