The Al Megrahi Farse Continues As He Jets Out Of Scotland

Exactly two hours and one minute after Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill announced that convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi would be freed on compassionate grounds and allowed to return to Libya, the man found guilty of killing 270 jetted out of Scotland.
Yes, he’s gone already.

As I sat watching the live feed on BBC 24 I found it difficult to believe what I was seeing.
Just over an hour after the announcement, an Afriqiyahi Airbus A300, chartered by the Libyan Government, landed at Glasgow International Airport to await the arrival of Al-Megrahi from nearby Greenock Prison.

The saddest part of this entire sorry affair is those people who lost loved ones will now never find out the truth.
After a couple of days the dust will have settled and the whole Lockerbie incident will be swept under the carpet forever.
The speed in which Al-Megrahi was put on a plane out of Scotland after the announcement speaks volumes of the double-dealing that’s gone on behind the scenes involving the governments of Scotland, the UK, the USA and Libya.

It’s my view all those involved are as guilty as the man who heads home to Libya to an expected hero’s welcome.
1.25pm – Announcement made by Kenny MacAskill that Al-Megrahi will be freed and allowed to return home on grounds of compassion.
2.28pm – Afriqiyahi Airbus A300 lands at Glasgow International Airport
2.36pm – Police convoy carrying Al-Megrahi leaves Greenock Prison
3.05pm – The convoy arrive at Glasgow International Airport and stops alongside the Afriqiyahi jet
3.07pm – Three unidentified men emerge from the plane and greet police officers. Within a few seconds they take two bags of personal belongings from the police van on board the aircraft.
3.08pm – Al-Megrahi exits the police van dressed all in white and is very briefly greeted by the Libyan officials. He makes his way, unaided with a walking stick, up the stairs to the plane taking less than 20 seconds before he is inside the aircraft and out of sight.
3.10pm – The three unidentified men board the aircraft.
3.13pm – The stairs are removed.
3.14pm – The jet is pushed out of it’s holding stand and taxis to the runway.
3.26pm – The Afriqiyahi jet carrying Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, the only man convicted of the Pan Am 103 bombing over Lockerbie, takes off for the four hour flight to Libyia.
