Cockfighting In The Philippines

Cockfighting in The Philippines is so widespread and popular it could be classed as a national sport.

Known locally as ‘Sabong’, there are both legal and illegal cockfights with the latter called ‘Tupada’ or ‘Tigbakay’.

Sabong and tupada are judged by a referee called the ‘sentensyador’, whose verdict is final and not subject to any appeal.

Here’s 24 pictures from a legal cockfight with photos showing the preparation of the blades being attached to the cocks, snaps from the fight itself inside the cockpit and several photos of the injured birds.

This gallery contains graphic images that some may find offensive.
