Photo Special: Iraqi Elections

Under a blanket of tight security designed to thwart insurgents attacks, Iraqis went to the polls on Sunday in an election testing the ability of the country’s still-fragile democracy to move forward at a time of uncertainty and sectarian divisions.
Voting began last Thursday with a special voting day for around 790,000 voters, including policemen, soldiers, patients in the hospitals and prisoners.
18.9 million Iraqis have the right to elect 325 deputies from 165 political parties and 12 electoral blocks.
These elections were the second the country has seen since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
