The Balinese Day of Silence, marks the Bali Hindu New Year, where Hindus all over the island of Bali are not allowed to travel, work, light lamps or cook.

As part of the festivities worshippers carrying giant ‘ogoh-ogoh’s – effigies made of bamboo and papier mache symbolising evil spirits – around the streets.

Balinese Hinduism differs from Indian Hinduism in that within Indian Hinduism most people worship Brahman as a supreme deity and within Balinese Hinduism most people worship Sanghyang Widhi Wasa as the supreme deity.
